Play Felt Tree & Ornaments

I decided that instead of having a battle over the littles tearing up the real tree this year,
they needed a tree of their own to play with!
Now they can decorate and more importantly UN decorate their tree as many times as they please.
(This is some serious entertainment... it just MAY have to stay out all year long!)


I started out by cutting a triangle then I cut out different size squares for presents and embellished them because all every Christmas Tree HAS to have presents under it, right?!


I grabbed my hot glue gun and glued the presents to the tree so they cannot be removed.
Hot glue LOVES felt!



Then I cut out different ornaments and lights, some plain, some with dots, some with stripes!
(have fun with it!)
Slap those cuties onto the Felt Tree and... 


...now the littles have their own tree to do with whatever they please!


If all goes as planned, your tree will remain in tact through the Christmas Season!

How did you attach the tree to the wall?
I actually used little dots of hot glue since the wall is brick. The hot glue peels right off the brick! Other readers have suggested Command Strips or double sided stick tape, but I have not tried these ideas.
 
How do you get the ornaments to stick to the tree?
Felt sticks to felt!
 
How much felt did you use to make the tree?
About one yard.
The tree measures 36 inches tall and the base of the tree is 29 inches wide!

  8. This is so smart, I have a 7 year old and he is still messing with the tree. While it is fun the first night, I grow frustrated fixing the tree. Mostly because he clumps all his favorite ornaments within a one foot square.... I am totally making this.

  16. The Ornaments stick to the tree on their own! Felt sticks to felt! As for the tree... I attached it with little dots of hot glue since it is over brick. Maybe you could use strong double sided sticky tape or tack for walls? Or you could nail it to the wall with little nails and then patch/paint after Christmas... Hmmmm

  17. You could probably use Command Poster Strips to attach to wall and felt sticks to felt really well so no need for anything on the back of the ornaments! Love it and am hoping to get mine up tomorrow! Thanks!

  23. This is absolutely adorable and I will be making it for my kids as well! I love the idea and can see it working well with other holidays too...large felt Easter eggs that the children can "decorate," jack o' lantern faces with changeable features, etc. Thank you for such a cute idea!

  24. GREAT idea!! My 16 month old LOVES the balls on the trees but she has figured out how to take the tops off and likes to put them in her mouth, ugh. So I will def be making one of these for her!

  29. LOVE this idea!!!! How much felt would you recommend getting?

    We put up our tree a few weeks ago and my son just cannot keep his hands off of it. He has already knocked it over once and is constantly pulling ornaments off. Originally, we had put all the breakables on the top half of the tree and the rest on the bottom but we are sick of picking them up all the time. So, now it is only decorated half up lol.

  32. THANK YOU! I absolutely love this idea! I already made this this morning for my almost 2 year old daughter. And as an fyi to those who asked, I used the Command strips to stick it to the wall... it holds well to the felt, but for extra reinforcement, I used some double sided tape to secure the Command strip to the felt.
    As a sode comment, I also LOVE Harper's outfit in the pictures. SO cute!
