In our playroom lives this fabulous sofa that I got for... FREE!
But that's not the whole story...
It used to look like this (brace yourself)...
ok, ok it's not THAT bad:
But THEN I discovered that Rust-oleum has VINYL spray paint!
OMG can we say I was (...and still am) FREAKING out?!?
(can you hear the choir of angels?!?)
Want Proof:
So, I snagged up 4 cans at $7 a pop and go to sprayin'
After three good coats I ended up with this:
Can you believe this once navy blue sofa was SPRAY PAINTED white?!?
I mean, does it get any better than that?!
I am completely in LOVE.
$28 for a super cutie, child friendly sofa to lounge around on is FABULOUS in my book!
What have you transformed lately?!
FAQ's:
Is it crunchy?
NOPE! It feels just like leather or soft vinyl! Soft and smooth.
Does it crack?
Nope. We have used the tar out of it and it is holding up great so far!
What if something spills on it?
Wipe it off! Because it is in the playroom is has already had milk, juice, Popsicle, ice cream all over it. Harper also smeared a Strawberry NutriGrain bar all over it the other day...I just take a damp rag and wipe the mess up! No problem!
Is there fabric spray paint?
The can says "Fabric & Vinyl" so I guess it would also work on fabric too! I have not used it on fabric YET! If you do, please send me an email and let me know how it works!
Where did you find it?
The local Auto Parts store.

Holy cow, Natalie that turned out ah-mazing! I wish I could spray paint my sofa - but it's velvet-y so that wouldn't work so hot. LOL
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of spray paint, have you seen the new Martha Stewart line of acrylic paints? They have a spray paint kit that allows you to turn any of the 160 colors into SPRAY PAINT! Ahhhhhhh!
Where can I get this?!?!? I have fabric I've been wanting to spray paint, and this would be amazing! This project makes me want to go to Goodwill and find a piece of vinyl furniture to refinish! Thanks so much!

OMG...I've got to find this!
ReplyDeleteI just saw an ugly brown vinyl sofa yesterday at Goodwill. Loved the shape, but the color was yuck! Dang...I knew I should have gotten it.
Whoa, this is impressive. I have a cream colored recliner that I want white! Just might have to do this. Thanks for the great tip!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it! I have a friend who told me that her mother spray painted the living room carpet! I did not see it but my friend swears that she did.
ReplyDeleteThis is incredible!! It looks great and what a great idea!! I linked it up on my blog today! http://vixenmade.blogspot.com/2011/08/amazing-spray-paint.html
ReplyDeleteWhat? That is the coolest invention. Now, if I could only find a free vinyl sofa to test it out!
ReplyDeleteBest,
Emily from Nap Time Is My Time
That is awesome! We almost painted my mom's couch with fabric paint but then realized how much we would have needed.... Might have to give this a try (it's fabric not vinyl).

I can't stop linking you! I love this so much!!!
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I recently inherited a classic 1961 VW Beetle passed down three generations. Right before he passed it to us, my father-in-law had new vinyl covers installed on all the seats, but they weren't available in their original cream color. He was really disappointed that all he could get was a light navy color that doesn't really quite match anything on the turquoise vehicle!
We really don't know a ton about car restoration (yet), but your couch looks about the right color, so I showed this to my hubby and it looks like this might be a pretty simple restoration project for our baby! We'll be checking the auto supply store soon and getting those seat covers painted back to the color the Good Lord and Volkswagon intended!
We learn something new every day. That is amazing.

I love this! About 8 years ago I spray painted a baby blue vinyl chair black with vinyl spray paint and it has held up until recently little wear spots are starting to appear but all you have to do is respray it. This chair has been through the ringer and held up remarkably well. I found mine at the local home improvement store.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome! I saw your sofa on Someday Crafts just under my painted chair! I hadn't thought about it, but spray paint is perfect for vinyl! Looks awesome. I may end up mentioning it on my blog...
